3 Years And Counting...

Image
If I can make a wish come true on my birthday, I would like to wish for my investing journey to start much much earlier. If you have been following my blog, you would know that I started "thinking" about investment in the year 2017 but didn't really get down to it until 2020. I actually wasted almost 3.5 years through procrastination and thinking and pondering but took no action except to attend a thousand dollars guru course. If you are reading this blog and thinking whether of not you should learn a thing about investing, my advice is to start as early as you can. Actually do it now! (Here's my referral link to Webull, both you and I will get rewards when you fund the account,  https://www.webull.com.sg/s/ 7JusgkneFgyujCEEVm ) Today (22 August 2023), I received a Happy Anniversary email from Interactive Brokers to mark my third year into the world of investing. What started off as a 1K investment is now a six figure portfolio comprising of equities, mutual funds, ...

Investing needs time

Rome wasn't built in one day... if this saying holds some truth, time is of utmost important. Given time one can change from not knowing to knowing. If you are already on an investment journey, give yourself a pat on the shoulders. If you have not done so, I cannot emphasize enough on the importance of getting started as early as possible. Set up a brokerage account and be on your way to your first investment. Don't let procrastination take you down because any delay can only make you further away from financially free. Investing needs time and only time will grow your investment. It is common see commercial banks using the illustration of trees as part of their most common marketing campaign. As you can see, time is needed for a seed to develop into a full growth tree. You have to water the plant consistently to see it grow. Once the plant turns into a tree, it will bear fruits and provide enough shade for you while you rest underneath. The canopy extends wide into the sky pro...

After 2 Years, I Am Down 39%!

Image
I started with a SGD1K account and progressively top up to a SGD87K account. I started my investing and trading journey in the month of August 2020. To mark this 2 years journey, I have decided to pen down this milestone so that if you stumbled upon this page and would like to try out investing or trading in future, you will avoid the mistakes that I have made and make you a more savvy investor or trader than I first started. To be specific, I started this journey almost the same time when the stock market recovered fully from the Covid-19 low. It was a period when time was of abundance and the country was under Covid-19 lockdown and all I could do at home was to watch Netflix and more Netflix... After 3 months of slacking around at home and pondering about the meaning of life, I happened to meet a secondary school friend who was already digging his hands into investment and trading way before Covid-19. With an insight into the stock market, my friend was quick to take action whe...

Investing In Cryptocurrency!

Image
You guess it... the fact that I am writing this blog entry goes to show that investing is not a bed of roses and if you are reading this, I hope that by penning down my experiences and thoughts, you will not walk the same journey as me and suffer monetary losses. But even if I am writing this, I want to say that there are always two sides to a coin, the yin and the yang, the heaven and the hell... While this experience did not turn out for me, there are many others who have had fairy tales ending and became very successful in crypto investment. Just not my cup of soup, at least for now... who knows, this might turn out to be my biggest regrets. When I first took a serious look at investing and trading, I was "sold" the fairy tales of why didn't I do this earlier??? If money is out in the streets, everyone would be doing the same thing and we no longer have to work eventually! This is only half true... I still stand by my earlier post that everyone should learn about inves...

Taking the first step!

Just remember CARROT! In my previous post, I briefly mentioned CARROT as the first few questions to ponder about when starting an investing journey. In this article, I will elaborate a little more on the specifics of CARROT. C for Capital The mother of all questions! "How much do I need to start investing?" Honestly, there is no answer to this question because it differs from person to person. I recently saw an ad on Facebook which allows one to invest with as little as $1!!! Sounds to good to be true... just imagine this, with your $1 investment that you have started today, you happened to buy into a stock which gives you a 100% return tomorrow and your account is now $2. YES! $2!!! but is that enough?  So how much do you really need? This is really a difficult question. To determine how much you need to start investing, you need to first answer these few questions: 1) Is this amount of money part of your "emergency fund"? 2) Will you go "broke" if you lo...

Why are we always feeling poor?

Image
Why? Why? Why? You asked yourself why is it that you are working harder these days but you are hardly getting by with whatever you are earning? You asked yourself why is it that after years of working with a rising salary and you are still unable to catch up to the rising economy? If you are asking these questions, do take a minute to think it through. What exactly is wealth? If you think that wealth equates to money then you have gotten it all wrong! Money is simply a currency that is used to complete a transaction. Essentially, it is a tool that is used to facilitate the process of bartering a trade. Its value is determined by the actual item that it is used for the exchange. Say for example, if you have a million dollars Indonesia rupiah, the value of a million dollars does sound decently high valued. However, when we convert one million Indonesia rupiah to Singapore dollars, it is only slightly under a hundred dollars. As such, having a high value currency does not represents wealt...

Reasons why you should not invest...

Image
Straight to the point... You should not invest if you are in this situation: IN DEBT 1) You are in debt. If you have a recurring debt which require you to repay the loan, you should focus on completing the payment (partial/full) before you decide to invest. Debt in this case refers to bad debts such as credit card loans, loan sharks payment and personal loans from friends or families. Unpaid loans can lead to complication. It just roll the debt snowball bigger and bigger. NOT EDUCATING YOURSELF 2) You have no head or tail about investing. You may have probably heard of someone making good returns buying stocks and decided to do the same but the results can widely differ. There are many factors resulting why two investors buying the same stock can have different returns. Not understanding when to enter a trade can lead to losses. When it comes to investing for beginners, I would like to recommend all to consider the CARROT rule: C - Capital, A - Assets, R - Risks, R - Risk Appetite, O -...
